Balsamic BBQ Sauce for Chicken, Steak or Pork

This recipe for Balsamic Barbecue Sauce is courtesy of Giada De Laurentiis, Food Network. I use it for chicken, steak and pork. I have made this sauce many times, and it's always a hit! We love it on chicken.

Ingredients

For the sauce

  • 1 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Instructions

For the barbecue sauce:

  • Combine all the ingredients in a small saucepan and stir until all the ingredients are incorporated and the mixture is smooth.
  • Simmer over medium heat until reduced by 1/3, about 25-30 minutes.

For the chicken or steak:

  • Place a grill pan over medium heat or preheat a gas or charcoal grill. Season the meat with salt and pepper.
  • Place the meat on the grill.
  • Cook the chicken until it reaches an internal temperature of 160°. Baste the chicken with the BBQ sauce and allow to cook for 2-3 minutes, indirect heat.
  • Remove the meat from the grill and let rest for at least 5 minutes. Serve with additional BBQ sauce alongside.

To bake the chicken:

  • Alternately, the chicken can be baked in the oven.
    Preheat the oven to 375°F. Place the chicken skin side up in a baking dish and bake for 25 minutes.
  • Remove the baking dish from the oven and spoon the BBQ sauce all over the top of the chicken. Return the baking dish to the oven and bake for another 15 minutes.

Notes

The sauce can be made ahead of time and stored in a mason jar in the fridge for up to a month. This is a very simple, but delicious meal. You can use an indoor grill, too.
