Classic Frozen Margaritas
Frozen Margaritas are a refreshing summer adult drink that we enjoy making at home. You can buy Margarita mix, but why not make it at home? It’s so easy to make with only three ingredients. Best of all, homemade sour mix lasts for weeks and can make a myriad of delicious cocktails.
This post has two recipes for the price of one! Homemade Sour Mix is so easy to make, and it’s a versatile ingredient. Use the Sour Mix to make these Classic Margaritas or other cocktails. Or, add it plain to ice and it’s a refreshing citrus “mocktail”.
Cinco de Mayo is always a good excuse to make restaurant quality salsa, chips and a frozen margarita at home. I used to buy Margarita Sour Mix at our local Trader Joe’s stores. Sadly, they quit stocking this inexpensive ($1.99) product and I couldn’t find a substitute that was just as good anywhere else…until now!
I made two bottles of this Homemade Sour Mix, so we can enjoy a variety of cocktails. This is so easy and much better than what you buy at the grocery store. I promise!
Our lemon and lime tree is loaded with lots of fruit, so why not try making our own? I didn’t photograph the process, but it’s so simple. Equal parts simple syrup and to an equal part of fresh lemon and lime juice! Easy, peasy!
There are so many variations of Margarita cocktails, but this time I chose to make our with Blanco Tequila and Cointreau.
Cointreau is an orange liqueur somewhat similar to Triple Sec. It’s a classic ingredient for margaritas, along with tequila, of course. Add homemade sour mix and plenty of ice (I like my frozen margaritas to be thick). My Vitamix is a high powered blender that crushes ice perfectly.
Some lime juice rubbed around the rim of a glass, and dipped in salt is a classic touch.
TASTING NOTES: What I love about Margaritas, is it’s a versatile cocktail. Sometimes, I toss in frozen strawberries or mango. The sky’s the limit. These do pack a bit of punch, but that’s why we prefer to partake in our cocktails at home. The Homemade Sour Mix is something I’m glad I discovered is to easy to make. I see Piña coladas in our future!
